Terms of Service
Last updatedLast updated: August 4, 2026
These terms cover your use of SmogScanner — the app, the website, and related services.
The service
SmogScanner provides vehicle lookups, smog-check requirement information, and station-management tools (work orders, customers, invoicing, reports) for California smog-check stations.
Vehicle information is informational
Smog-check requirements, test-type determinations, and exemption logic are derived from California BAR rules and public vehicle data. They are provided as guidance, not as an official determination. The California Bureau of Automotive Repair and the DMV are the authoritative sources; always confirm against official records before acting on them.
Accounts and subscriptions
Paid tiers are billed as auto-renewing subscriptions through the App Store. You can cancel anytime in your App Store settings; access continues through the end of the paid period. You’re responsible for activity under your account.
Your data
Station records you create in SmogScanner belong to you. We host them to provide the service (see the Privacy Policy).
Acceptable use
Don’t abuse the service — no scraping the lookup APIs at bulk, no attempts to access other stations’ data, no unlawful use.
Warranty and liability
The service is provided “as is” without warranties. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the service.
Changes
We may update these terms; continued use after an update constitutes acceptance. We’ll note the date above.
